Customer Reviews
We had a great time at Nottoway. They are in a remodel phase so we there weren’t many staying there. Everyone was warm & friendly, made sure we had everything we needed. It was fun getting to meet the staff. Jessica gave us a great tour of the mansion, we would definitely recommend Jessica as she was so knowledgeable of Nottoway and the area and fun to visit with. Thanks Nottoway for a fun visit.
Dining hall is very spacious and beautifully decorated. Ample seating for large crowds. Dining hall has limited open days; available for lunch and dinner. Staff is very attentive. Food is very tasty with ample portions. Plan to return with a group for Sunday Brunch. Very clean facility and ample parking. The grounds are well kept. Easily accessible from La Hwy One. Adequate signage at entrance. Available overnight accommodations with swimming pool. Can also host large and small functions including weddings.
Stayed in the mansion a few years ago, one of the original families rooms. It was horrifyingly scary and I’m not remotely religious or superstitious. The room didn’t seem to have changed since the original occupants either- even the same bed!Something felt wrong. Giving 4 stars though as service etc was great.
When l/we toured the Plantation it was pointed out there are 365 windows in the building. One for every day of the year. We also went down to the basement and visited a Great Grandma of the family who definitely spoke of being a Southern Bell. She was delightful.
genuinely baffles me how people have weddings or even vacations at such a horrific sight of racism, cruelty, and blatant ignorance. completely agree with the other reviewers who stated that if you are going to have a building built on top of land that enslaved 150+ people you need to acknowledge the disgusting history. someone said that the tour guides talk about the family that enslaved the people who built it?? but nothing about the lives lost or people abused?? actually disgusting. this space should be memorialized. the abuse and racist history should not be disguised as a "family's home" turned into a resort.
