Mountaineer Casino Resort

I was last here over ten years ago when it had the gangster/Speakeasy theme in the casino which gave it a lot of charm. Now, the casino is basically two big rooms divided between smoking and non-smoking with a bunch of tables and slot machines. Many much older slot machines with a few newer machines here and there. It appears the hotel has expanded and there is still a horse track out back. I didn't eat here, and I didn't stay the night either. We stopped and gambled for a couple of hours on our way back to Ohio. It has definitely changed many times over the years. I can say my early memories before the hotel was added were the best. We read of several negative experiences at this hotel so we decided to see for ourselves.|We found it very interesting when we called to make our reservation and had a few questions specifically about the room, that the person taking the reservation answered “I have no idea. I have never been in the rooms and don’t plan on it.”|Wow! A bit shocking for someone who is supposed to represent the property!|And then when we checked in, the person checking us in said “I’ve never been in any of the rooms and I don’t plan on it.”|ATTN: Management: We would recommend you get your people into see rooms!!!!!|As for the room, it was very clean and quiet. Positive: The fact that it is connected to a casino that is in the country. Negative: The bathroom floor was disgusting. Grout is not black. (It had an areas that were a tad lighter).

The entertainment and atmosphere has declined drastically. Put the Grand Piano back in the Mahogany Bar and open it daily. My wife and I have been coming here since before the tables. The employees are homely looking and have a terrible attitude to match their appearance. The entertainment aspect needs some severe help which will definitely improve their visitation numbers. Bring back the buffet which was a lot better than the current food and service at the restaurant. Too much space wasted on the sports betting area which should be smaller and more black jack and dice tables added. We have since been going to The Rivers and Presque Isle, which have employees with better attitudes and more black jack tables for the average income individuals. Had a great time here. It’s so clean and spread out just right so you’re not bumping into other people. Came home with a couple of extra bucks also. That does make it better.
