A great family resort for teaching the kids to ski or just staying local. No waiting for a half hour in lift lines. It's usually ski down and up, especially on the lifts servicing "advanced" runs. With a vertical drop of 425 feet and it is a beginner Mountain, but for the cost of a season pass, you can come out as much as you want. The Snow making abilities on a small mountain keep conditions good. The ski school staff are well known for toddler and youth programs. Food options, especially the Waffles and Pizza aren't gouging.
TL;DR The new lift ticket gates they've installed this year create a worse experience for all, though especially for both beginner skiers and snowboarders. This is my hometown mountain, when visiting home for the holidays this year I was excited to see the season was already open and so little had changed about the mountain or the services they offer. The riding was great and the weather was cooperative! The one exception to this positive experience was the new ticket gates theyve installed this year. Every other mountain Ive visited on the east coast or out west has either a handheld scanner gun or an open style RFID gate with few or no obstructions for riders. Im fine scooting my board on and off a lift, but the hardest part for most beginner skiers and snowboarders is getting on and
Mount Southington completely saved our ski day. We came here after being burned by an overbooked resort, and the difference was immediate. No massive lines, no chaos, and rentals were handled quickly and professionally. The rental staff were genuinely kind and detail-oriented. They carefully measured my head for the right helmet size, the gear was clean, and the helmet liners were single-use, which was a nice touch. On the mountain, the snow quality was noticeably better, and the lifts felt faster, smoother, and more secure. The whole operation felt efficient, modern, and safety-focused.
Our church youth group took a ski trip and George Chekiye was our ski instructor he was very knowledgeable & patient with all the kids! They now love skiing because of his great lesson! We will definitely be back.
Took my four-year-old son here for his first ever ski lesson. Paid $250 for a private lesson. It was a disaster from start to finish. I emailed ahead of time to ask where to go. Was told to check in at Guest Services. We did, and they sent us to the wrong location — the group lesson area. The private lesson was at the complete opposite end of the base. My son was in ski boots for the first time in his life. That long walk wiped out his legs before the lesson even started. He was exhausted the entire time because their own staff gave us wrong directions. The rental skis they gave him kept coming off his feet throughout the lesson. Poorly fitted equipment for a child. The worst part: near the end of the lesson, a beginner snowboarder who wasn't even taking a lesson hit my son in the head
