McCollum Campground

On the plus side ... the forests surrounding these well-maintained campgrounds are virgin, luxurious and beautiful. In the main campground the cites are well spread out under ample canopy, remarkable for campgrounds in the East. ||Unfortunately, when the state expanded the campground to the east, they foolishly cut down the vast majority of the trees in the new area. Thus the old area features much more beautiful shade than the new, along with better access to the lovely trails that traverse cross the forest, some leadiing to the dramatic Cheat River overlooks.||But unlike the new area, the old area lacks water at each site, making them less suitable for long-term stays. This is my favorite campground within a reasonable weekend driving distance from Pittsburgh. The spaces are spread out fairly well and the new loop is beautiful, especially in the fall! Water hookup along with electric and a very clean family shower facility.

Great spot for a weekend camping trip! We stayed on the new loop. Each site had its own electric and water and the campsites were spaced far enough so you didn’t feel like you were on top of your neighbor. Some sites (like ours -#27) were pretty exposed though so depending on your setup, you may want to keep the time of year you visit in mind. Pack up the fam, dogs and enjoy McCollum Campground!

The campground is beautiful specially in the Fall!! It’s a very peaceful campground with great sites. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The sunrise and sunset views are just amazing.

Great campgrounds and location! Amenities include bath/shower house. Laundry room with dish sink that has garage disposal. Electric on site and water pump. Not to mention gorgeous hiking trails with overlooks. Will definitely visit again!
