This place is an absolute gem! Randy and Alison have truly thought of everything to make guests feel right at home. We stayed in their newly built Makai cottage in January. The place was nicely decorated and clean. Everything was so comfortable from the bed linens to the towels/bathrobes provided to the breeze from the ceiling fans and opening the windows. One day we just decided to stay at the cottage instead of going out, we enjoyed being there so much. There was so much natural light that came in from all of the windows and the sliding door. It overlooks one of their farms and the view at dawn was like watching a painting unfold in the sky unobstructed. It has a lanai with lounge chairs to sit back and relax while watching. Everything in the kitchenette was what we needed after we bought food from Island Naturals in Hilo. The owner, Randy, was so attentive and very responsive to all of our needs and

We had a great time staying here for a couple of days last week. There's about a dozen or so cats that live on the property, and being that we're cat people....we fell in love with the place. Here's my pros and cons list: Pros: -Excellent views of the ocean -Fairly large room with mini kitchen -Electric tea kettle in the room -Access to full kitchen onsite and fresh fruit -Super quiet laid back atmosphere -Complementary robes in the bathroom -Sweet and social cats to play with Cons: -The rooms (we were in #3) were a little dated and could use some maintenance here and there, but nothing too serious -Not as close to volcanoes national park as one would like (45 min to an hour away) but worth it to be in a secluded spot -Hot water in our shower was spotty, especially if the other guests go

We stayed for 2 nights on our honeymoon and had the most relaxing and peaceful time. We can’t wait to go back. The views from the lanai are perfection and there are lots of friendly cats roaming around the property. Close enough to Waimea and Hilo to drive in for activities or food but far enough away to feel secluded.

I loved loved loved staying at Mahana House. We stayed in one of the standalone units and we loved having the privacy and the serene view. Watched the quiet sunrise every morning while we were jet lagged. Also enjoyed meeting the kitties that hung out around the property. Everything was clean and thoughtful, convenient amenities too. The hosts were also super responsive and proactive - they alerted us that the volcano was erupting which allowed us to quickly head over and catch it fountaining!
