Magnuson Hotel Ely

One of the best budget lodging I had experienced in a very long time. The bed was very comfortable, room was impeccably clean and without strange odors, shower was hot with plenty of pressure. The lady at the reception was incredibly friendly and helpful.

Positive: Very well kept. Fast easy check in and out. Friendly staff,clean room, great stay. Negative: Price and hopefully ice machine gets fixed.

First, we don't normally stay is a motel with few stars. But we are grateful for the vacancy as Ely was pretty much sold out the night we were there and the place we stay at frequently was sold out. The best part was the price and the clerk. Michelle us very friendly, available when needed, and helpful. So why three stars? I can't rate against other motels in this price range as I don't that experience. The room was clean and had enough room for one night. At first, we didn't think the TV worked but it was the remote that didn't work. Batteries, I guess. We did figure out how to operate it manually and were able to get the channel we like. We booked our hotel in the early morning, so they had the whole day to confirm a room for us. We arrived at 5:15 pm. The front desk was closed. They kept a key for another person in their key drop box but ours one was not there. So we called the staff, Russ. He received the call and said 'oh sorry I didn’t know there was another booking, I am coming right away'. So we were waiting inside our car. 45 minutes passed, no one came. So I called again, no answer. Called a few more times. No answer. Then we called the manager. At that time we were waiting in the parking lot for more than an hour. It was raining. Manager received the call and said she is in vacation, but she will call her staff. She said she will call us back. Again half an hour passed. So we called her once again, this time no an

Extremely unprofessional staff. We had a confirmed reservation, but there was no one at the front desk to provide us with the key. It was a frustrating and unacceptable experience. When we called, they answered once and said someone would arrive shortly, but after that they completely stopped responding and ignored all further calls. There are many other hotels nearby that are cheaper and offer far better service. I would strongly recommend choosing one of those instead.
