Lone Rock Campground

We stayed at Lone Rock (CA) in sites 28, 30, and 32. The drive in is steep for a mile or two if you’re coming from 395, or about 50 miles of washboard road from Truckee. That said, plenty of people got big trailers up there without trouble. The sites themselves were awesome—big, shady, and spread out. 30 and 32 were tucked under tall trees (though 32’s pad is tiny). 28 was farther away but still private and shaded. A friend was at 25 which is in direct sun, no shade, on a slant and right next to the bathrooms. All of them were close to the lake, which made for an easy paddleboard launch. The lake is gorgeous and surprisingly quiet on this end. Just bring a PFD; the sheriff does check. The vault toilets were clean, stocked, and only occasionally smelly (as expected). A campground that's 18 miles off of Hwy 395, up a grade that takes a pull on your vehicle; however, it is paved the whole way. No cell service, no other services either, so bring what you need, there is water at the campground. The campground has many FF sites, but not all sites can accommodate an RV/TT. It is $36 a site, and we scored site #64 on the lake; it was large enough for our 21-ft TT and vehicle. The eagles, birds, and deer were lovely to watch. Campground hosts were very nice and kept the bathrooms clean. However, the vault toilets needed to be pumped, as there were lots of people during the 4th of July Holiday. It was very relaxing, lots more people came up on July 3rd for the holiday.

The host Debbie was awesome. She has lots of information about the area. She is super friendly and loves to chat with guests, she even remembered my husband's birthday and came by to give her wishes to him. The camp is clean and there is lots of room and plenty to enjoy. You'll love to see all the wildlife. There is also a lot of areas to hike. The cows are a little loud early in the morning but you get used to it. The only downside is the Yellow Jackets, next time we're to try Debbie's tip of using peppermint fragrance of some kind. Bring plenty of ice as the store sells 20lb bags but they are $12, there is also small bundles of wood that were $7 and ice cream bars but those were $4. We'll definitely be back and try the fishing next time. Thank you again for you hospitality Debbie.

Awesome place to camp. Clean bathrooms and well kept camp ground. Next to Antelope Lake. No bear boxes so pack accordingly. Lunker point for swimming 3 miles away...take your floatie!! Fun, fun. Fun.

Great place to camp. There is usually a store but there is not one for this year of 2022. So make sure you bring everything you need.
