Laurel Hostel

Grounds keeper is very nice and easy to talk to. The Hostel was cleaner than most on the trail and the price was normal. Just wish there was a bathroom inside because the dogs outside are scary. I still have really enjoyed my stay and the hospitality of D.

It was Aug 31 2019 that we, I and my wife, stayed at the laurel hostel. A kind of unconventional place but very friendly and nice environment. Originally we did not have plan to stay and wanted to push for more miles. However We run out of fuel and worse than that, we run out of tortilla. ||The hike was relatively easy, and we got to hostel by 2 PM. There was a note that they will be back soon.||We went to the hostel porch and sat on the bench and looked around. The signs were scary and threatening that was very unusual for a kicker hostel. Be in Tennessee country side and seen the signs like “No trespassing, violator will be shot, survivor will be shot again” and many pictures of guns and second amendment made both of us scared and uncomfortable. Super sketchy! The confederacy is still alive and well here. Followed signs from the trail, because the signs were still posted, and there was no one to be found, except the guy who lives behind the hostel who is mean and will not talk to you. Tim showed up later and said the hostel was closed (so why are the signs still posted?) but he did let us stay. No linens. Bed foam had been chewed by mice. No toilet, only an out house that smelled worse than a wastewater treatment plant. Would not recommend.

Great little hostel! Put your money in Appalachia! These guys are making a great little spot, help them out! Not the ritz, but a shower, totinos, beer, soda, snacks. Camp out(showers extra) bunkhouse(shower included). No frills, no gear shop, no pillow mints. Just good folks, simple amenities. Did I mention pizza and beer! You can also just swing by and take a break in the shade for a quick bite and a cold beer!

Just stopped by for a shower before getting a shuttle off trail. Towels and soap/shampoo provided for $5. Hostel is a basic one... Bunks, shower, outhouse, maybe a cold drink but no laundry or resupply. Unsure of linen situation because I'm not staying overnight. The guy running the joint is very nice... Service gets 5 stars.
