Kyen Campground

Very pretty campground near Ukiah. Circling Ranger making sure the area was patrolled. Very clean bath houses, lots of available sites, Day user locals and campers here need to learn Leave No Trace, pick up trash and not let their dogs chase the Canadian Geese and Plovers, both of which are protected under the migratory bird act. Hopefully the government shutdown will end soon and the limited staff will have more help. In the meantime, Leave No Trace.

Campground was not well lit or well labeled. It is overpriced for what it is. There was only 2 other families there. There was animal activity in the woods all night so that was not comfortable. Fishing areas bathrooms were terrible with having been open all night. Bugs everywhere because of that. Camp areas bathrooms were pretty clean. Shower rooms were not very good. Camp area bathrooms were about what I would imagine a prison has. .Metal facilities Fishing area looked great although we could not stay to do so. One homeless man stayed in the separate upper parking lot. It wasn’t an issue. Good views. Location has good potential but seems to be a last resort. Careful on entry. Tire spikes present at exit to prevent entry. At night it isn’t as obvious that they are there. This would

Ground is very uneven and hard for tent camping and the ground is filled with poison oak. The camp sites at the lake are closed due to water level.

Beach was not good/clean for kids playing. But lake is perfect for kayaking and boating. There were a bunch of firewoods (cut trees in the campground) free to use.
