Knights Ferry Recreation Area

This is one of my favorite places to go to. Been going here for 20 plus years. Its not too far out and the hikes are pretty easy. Its just a nice place to get out doors if you don't want to go up the hill too far. When you are done hiking. Go to the creamery down the street and add those calories back on. The covered bridge was closed on 2/14/26. To hike on the north side of the river you should park on the north side parking lot. It costs $10 to park and the rangers do hand out tickets. Dog friendly park too.

Knights Ferry is such a gorgeous spot for photos! The scenery is beautiful year-round — golden fields, big trees, and that perfect river backdrop. It has so many versatile spots, from open fields to shaded areas and the historic bridge, making it perfect for any kind of session. Historical site that has a lot of different interesting facts. The views on the trails are very pretty. It's a fairly easy hike. It can get warm as the season moves into summer. Watch for snakes. Wear a life jacket if you go in the water don't be a statistic.

My husband and I thought we'd take a beautiful drive to the Foothills in Knights Ferry Wednesday. But when we arrived there were so many cats out there running to our feet wanting food. We had Kitty food for them and soon discovered there was a kitten there about 12 weeks old that was not completely feral. It was as if she was saying thank you for the food. She allowed us to pet her and pick her up. So we adopted her and took her home. She scheduled for her first veterinarian appointment this monday. It's a beautiful place it's one of the best time of year to go. But don't forget about the fur babies that need rescued spayed and neutered

If you want to connect with the historic origin of what became Stanislaus County, this is the place to visit. The Miwok and Yokuts used to intermingle here; you can see old acorn grinding stone hikes here. Captain William Knight operated a ferry crossing here during the Gold Rush, getting riches-seeking men (it was mostly men back then) across the Stanislaus River on their way from Stockton to Sonora. The oldest continuously operating general store in the state (1852) is here, as are remnants of the mill which processes wheat into grain for global export as early as the 1850s.
