Inn By the Lake

I was charmed by Inn By The Lake, which is a nice example of a vintage motel given new life. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the well-kept town park, overlooking beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee, and next door both to Papa’s Pizza and the summertime root beer stand/drive-in. The inn itself was very clean, the bed and furniture comfortable. The manager was friendly and responsive both in person and via text. The room’s bathroom was admittedly cramped, as one would expect from a building of that era. But very clean and functional, with vintage decor touches. The room itself was not enormous but spacious enough to accommodate the king size bed and a few other pieces of furniture. Stayed in Room 1 over the weekend and I was pleasantly surprised how nice and clean the room was. Very pleasant and friendly greeting when I arrived by the front desk. The room was well attended and had tasteful holiday decor to make it feel like Christmas time. There is an Italian restaurant literally next door so it's super easy to get something to eat without having to drive. A 2 minute drive to Culver Academy. I would definitely stay there again!!!

Please note that all the good reviews are at least a couple of years old. I believe the inn is under new management and/or ownership. I will only say that we refer to it as the "Motel California." It is not by any means a bed and breakfast. The room we stayed in was damp and musty. To enter or exit the bathroom, you have to dodge a piece of furniture. The bathroom is so small you cannot sit facing forward on the toilet. The lighting is terrible. You can't read in the evening without a Kindle or other device with back lighting.

We are from New Jersey and we needed to attend a wedding at the Culver Academy. I was nervous about picking lodging in Culver Indiana because there are no chain hotels near the town. I was also unsure about the VRBOs I saw online. I took a chance on Inn by the Lake, and I'm really glad I did. I heard another guest had rented a private home, but it turned out to be so bad that she moved to this Inn.||||I asked about availability over email and received an immediate response. I then finalized the reservation over the phone. The wedding was the second Saturday in June, which is high season. We stayed at the Inn when we attended a local wedding. Pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The room had a mini fridge & microwave. Each room has a different theme, we had a woodsy fishing cabin theme. Very clean & comfy. The free breakfast was incredible. There were several home aide breakfast casseroles, that I had to get the recipes for because my family loved them so much. The owner was the sweetest hostess. Highly recommend this special Inn!!!!
