Quirky old hotel built in the 1890s. I stopped on a cycling tour as there aren't many places to stay (or eat) in Hyannis. Fortunately this had both. The hotel was full for a wedding but the dining room was nearly empty for the same reason. Everybody in town was at the reception. Owner was very personable and fun to chat with - she newly owns the place and we talked about the challenges operating a hotel in such a small town. She cooks a pretty good ribeye and I wish her success in her new venture. Rooms are a bit cramped and could use some updating but overall were fine. Trains from the tracks across the street woke me up a few times, but that's just Nebraska.

We stopped in this unassuming little town en route to see the solar eclipse of 2017. We were a little taken aback at how small the town was, and how unassuming the hotel and restaurant were. The rooms were clean and comfortable however, and the food was excellent. Steaks being barbecued to order made for a truly delicious meal. Nothing fancy but really good. And the people could NOT have been nicer or more accommodating. Be warned that the coal trains go by very frequently all night long. Take earplugs and you'll be fine.

Ok. I am not picky. I was tired and hungry. The rooms are small, clean, bed is comfy, netflix on tv. Is it high class, no. Would I come here again, for sure. I wanted a bed, shower, burger and beer. 33 steps from my room to bar. $11 for a burger and onion rings, hell yes, any day of the week. Great service, yes. Hole in the wall type dive bar atmosphere, yes. For heavens sake, it was built in like 1890. Stop by, get a burger or chicken fried steak or just an adult beverage.

I had a stay here on my way through town. The rooms were ok and the water pressure in the shower was great. However, the food at the bar is sub par, even for a small Nebraska town. The wait for food was also quite long (about an hour for the entree to appear when it was not busy). I should note that the staff was friendly... Though, I'm not sure that is enough for me to return here. It must be quite tough for small privately owned hotels to compete with the chains these days and I can sympathize with that but there just wasn't much of an upside for me on this stay to recommend it.

UPDATE: As of 2023, this place was closed and for sale. So sad. 😔 Best chicken fried steak, staff was so friendly and we stayed the night in the hotel. The rooms were nice, clean and comfortable. If you are ever close, you have to check this place out. UPDATE:
