Hunting Island State Park Campground

Beautiful location even in winter. The sunrises are gorgeous and the tent sites are right next to the ocean. Bring good sleeping pads though, the tent platforms are rock hard because of the fine sand.

This place is so peaceful! We stayed for 6 nights and if you love camping like we do then you’ll LOVE this campground! Easy walk to the beach and the camp store is awesome!

I write this as a car camper, for car campers, for which this campsite is not ideal. Let's start with the good stuff. It's a beautiful location, right on the beach on Hunting Island, which was where the Vietnam scenes in Forrest Gump were filmed. There are RV spots nearer the forest, and the camping spots are closer to the ocean - these seemed to be nicer spots. Sadly, there's no provision for car camping here. They said as we were sleeping in our car we'd class as an RV and wanted $80 for the night. As there were vehicles bigger than ours parked alongside the tents in the camping section it was a bit baffling that we were unable to "camp" and as $80 was way out of our budget we sadly left. The staff were nice though, and perhaps even a little apologetic for the computer-says-no State P

I brought my 76 yr old mother for her birthday and she absolutely loved it. The beach was close enough for her to use her walker. And she was able to see some dear walking around at dusk. I had a little problem with my breaker tripping in my camper, and a very nice technician showed up promptly to help. It turned out to be my surgery protector was the problem. I unplugged it and the problem was solved. I had a wonderful experience

Low laying terrain. Mosquitoes are unbearable. I know it’s not the fault of the campground. Beach is good. Restrooms are decent except showers are extremely small with no dressing area in them. Keep your coolers in your vehicle. Coons are extreme and no how to get in coolers. Deer come up looking for a snack as well. Camp store is way overpriced. Bring what you need cause you will have to drive 24 miles round trip to pick up something you forgot.
