Howard Johnson's in Malden, Massachusetts aka Greater Boston is Definitely my #1 Hotel in Boston area for Best Value and a Hotel Room with new beds and TV and Bathroom. You think you are at a Marriott for half the price -- usually $89 to $109. Stores and Restaurants are less than 5 minute walk. From the owner Mr. Patel to the Staff like Lisa, they make you feel at home if you are here 1 day or 10. Great Bathroom Towels and Bedding. Can't Miss if you are on business or leisure and it is a Wyndhan Property for Rewards Members too!!! Scott Peterson

The first thing I would say is that this is not a hotel. It seems to be advertised as a hotel but it is a motel at best. I have nothing against motels, but when you think you’ve booked a room at a hotel and then find out it’s a crappy motel, it’s a bit bothersome. Upon arriving in the parking lot, I thought I put the wrong address in my GPS. There’s not even a sign on the building that shows the name of the place. There is one vending machine in the lobby which had 2 or 3 items in it but it was broken the entire time I was there. The ice machine was also broken for the entire stay. Reading through some other reviews from a few weeks ago, it seems these machines have been broken for a long time. Positive: Nothing! Was thankful I didn't get murdered while staying here. Negative: It was not AT ALL what I was expecting based on the very deceptive photos online. This is a 1 star MOTEL only because it can't get any worse.

I booked this in hopes of an easy & cheap accommodation before an early morning flight. It was neither and the experience was truly rough beyond low set expectations. The general hotel is NOT a Howard Johnson and is independently owned - please note this namesake of some level of quality is no longer there, despite the Google provided assurance. The entire room was in poor and unhygienic condition. The linens were dirty (hairs in bed) and mysterious stains on most surfaces. Evidence of pests and roaches left much to be desired. I was not expecting a great experience but nothing this traumatic. The entire building feels unmarked and unsafe in condition. Large debris and trash in poorly lit hallway zones. I would never stay here again not recommend it.

Would give zero stars if we could. This was a fairly last minute booking, when we had an overnight layover. Something going on in Boston over the weekend I guess cause every hotel is booked or sold out- we really had no options. Not one air bnb available at all. At check in they said “not sure if we have a room for you cause we overbooked”. Thankfully they did have a room. The room smells lightly like smoke, only half the water comes out the top of the shower, and only a sheet on the bed. Went to ask for a blanket and was given two extra sheets. Asked for a couple bottles of water for the room (assuming they forgot to put some out) and was told “we don’t do that here” but you can walk 5 minutes to the store. No vending machine either!!! We are so tired from a long travel day plus jet lag…
