Howard Johnson by Wyndham North Plainfield

The heat/AC unit was blowing out cool air instead of hot air. The maximum temperature is 78, but it feels more like 70 degrees. The room is spacious and has plenty of storage. The rooms don't have phones to easily contact the front desk. You have to call from your cell phone, which isn't a huge inconvenience. The room temperature was the main reason for deducting points. Despite the reservation being made by NJ 211 for code blue, the staff treated me with respect and kindness. The later checkout time of 12 pm allows extra time to determine if code blue will be extended or if the checkout time stands, there's more time to pack up and check out.

Positive: Location Negative: The first room they gave us was not clean. The second room the toilet was clogged and the hotel staff had me unclogg it. The second night they did not give us any coffee for the coffee maker. When I inquired they first stated they were out of it.

The rate was higher than Google showed. The TV did not work. Could not call the front desk because the house phone did not work, didn't even have a dial tone. The blanket was very thin. The shower had rust stains. The hallways were dark and creepy. The breakfast was sparse. Cereal coffee, stale croissants; no fruit, no eggs, no waffles. Best I can say is it was fairly quiet and had good wifi.

The staff was nice enough to let me check in early which I do appreciate even though it cost me almost $150 and I didn’t even stay the night. The problem was that the room smelled horrible and was dirty and run down. As soon as I walked in all I could smell was cigarettes.

The first room they gave us was disgusting and dirty. Then they moved us to another room the toilet was clogged. They told me that behind the vending machines is a plunger to unclog it. I was able to unclog it but got fecal matter on the floor housekeeping took forever to come over and clean it. The next and final night of our stay they did not provide toilet paper to the room when they cleaned it nor did they provide coffee. The first liied and said the coffee is not available and then they contacted housekeeping who had tons of it.
