Hotel Grinnell

The hotel is in a great location! You literally don't have ANY chain hotel nearby! But the great things ended here with the location. I really can't think of anything else that I like about this hotel, because: - No AC in the cold Feb weather! I was given a tiny space heater! - Not a standard hotel room. The ceiling is like 2-story-building tall and the walls are paper thin. I can hear my neighbors walking, talking and bathing. This was not a hotel room at all, it felt like I am sharing my bedroom with strangers. - Breakfast items remained unchanged for a whole week. Not a single new item was introduced to the table. - Over priced! $240 after tax per day for this? - Frontdesk , I never found people even once in the frontdesk. Always have to go to the bar for any service needed.

The hotel is very cool. It was created from an old school building and has that school vibe. Rooms are nice, very clean and modern, beds are super comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is an onsite restaurant and bar. Only had drinks there, but the bar staff was super. It has a cool lounge area. I had to leave at 5 am each day and there was fresh coffee in the lobby. Highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel Grinnell is trying to be a boutique hotel, but in reality is a very, very, very over-priced Motel 6...||Check-in - not welcoming or warm, perfunctory. So much so that NOTHING was explained to us... Ummm, there is a small continental BREAKFAST included? That would've been good to mention. Hey - there is bottled water and snacks in a fridge for all to share? HEY! That would be a good point to include in the guest welcome (before we made a drive out to WalMart to get what was included but we were not told...).||Bed is comfy.||Cannot control heat from the room and the front desk didn't ever adjust it (after 3 calls to them).||Never anyone at the front desk - need more help.||Hotel used to be a school, so soooo much potential to work with that. But it all falls short.||Toiletries

Plenty of Parking. Very nice front desk. They have a fridge in the lobby with free stuff like water, Gatorade, and chocolate milk. The room has small fridge. The shower had okay pressure, but sometimes barely got hot and sometimes it was great. Bathroom has vent. I was on the first floor need the door to the bar. So loud. I could hear everything, every person walking down the hall, the people above use, the people next to use. Constantly sound like someone was checking our door to see if it was unlocked, think it was just the rattle of the doors opening in the hallway. Easy hear neighbors, at one point I got up to check bathroom because it sounded like neighbors were in my bathroom. Beds are comfy. Pillows are flat but okay if you shove two into one pillow case. I stayed at Hotel Grinnell at the end of September 2025. What a wonderful gem in the middle of Iowa. As a Choice Privileges member, I appreciate how well they treat the members, especially when a misunderstanding of Privileges points are used, and how quickly that was resolved. The rooms are terrific, great modern decor, comfortable and clean. The entire hotel is fascinating because of its history and the renovation is awesome. The restaurant and patio is also great, great food and cocktail menu, wonderful and friendly service. I will stay here again next time i'm anywhere near central Iowa!
