Holiday Inn South Kingstown (Newport Area), an IHG Hotel

I’ve been staying at the Kingston Holiday Inn for the past four years whenever I visit my daughter at URI, and I honestly look forward to every stay! The URI discount beats the AAA one, the location is super convenient to campus, and the rooms are always clean and spacious. But what really makes this place special is Chrissy at the front desk. She is an absolute gem! She accommodates our need for a first-floor room due to mobility issues and is friendly, genuine, and goes out of her way to make every visit feel welcoming. They’re so lucky to have her keeping guests happy; she really makes the whole experience shine.

Nice hotel, nothing over the top, but no complaints. It is right off of the road, 5 minutes from University of Rhode Island and Boss Ice Arena. You can walk to a Dunkin Donuts from the hotel, and if you need to charge an electric vehicle, you can charge it a short walk away at the GMC dealership (fast charging). Hotel has a nice pool, that it outdoors only. There is no breakfast included, but you can purchase for $13/person. Rooms were nice and comfortable, dining area was nice, but over-priced, so we did not eat there. All around, good hotel.

If I could give this place minus 5 stars, I would.||Definition of Hospitable - "A hospitable person is friendly, generous, and welcoming to guests or people they have just met." Unfortunately, there was none of that here to the point where I left one day early.||First let's start with the room. The shower curtain is too short, so that once you're done, the floor is soaked. The wallpaper in the bathroom is coming off. There were fecal stains in the toilet. Two of the walls had stains on them, one next to the bed, and the other next to the TV. Sloppy rushed paint job on the back of the door was obvious too. The pool never has enough towels for the guests and when they complain, it falls on deaf ears.||Breakfast. We recently stayed one night at this location. The location and proximity to attractions is great but the property itself could use a bit of updating. The frontdesk attendant was very friendly and professional upon checkin but the night staff was very standoff-ish. We asked for 2 additional towels for morning showers and he was refusing to provide us but without several justifications, realy it was 2 towels. There was a very large private event being hosted during our stay. Those guests were very loud afterhours but pronply quieted down when asked. Due to this the event the continental breakfast space was being used so other guests were asked to eat in the bar. The wallpaper was starting to peel in places and several cracks in the ceiling. We stayed on the first floor of this hotel and it was very damp, almost as if the sheets and rug felt slightly wet. The air conditioning did work, but was a very loud, old wall unit. My son noticed his sheets were full of dog hair the first night and the front desk was accommodating in changing them right away (as it is pet friendly). There was also a barking dog next to us the first two nights, but the staff did attempt to curb it. Overall, it was clean and the bed/pillows were at least comfortable. They had a restaurant attached to the hotel, but we opted to go elsewhere. Plenty of choices in the area. The pool was very nice and kept clean.
