Holiday Inn Express & Suites Hazard by IHG

UPDATE: A week after Bad experience, I received a call from the General manager who apologized for the incident and is going to do something to correct it. I appreciated at least getting a call and apology. ———- Newly renovated hotel,??? shower doesn’t work, drywall dust all over the bathroom floor, room door will not secure tightly, housekeeping walked in during shower with do not disturb tag on the door, brand new TV does not have a constant signal so you can’t watch shows or news, lamps have bulbs, but no shades. Staff is very pleasant, but there’s always an issue going on needing fixed. For the price, you don’t get the quality you would expect.

Check in was 3 PM. We arrived at 4:30 PM and found that our reservation had been changed internally from a suite to standard room. With four kids, this was difficult to begin with. On top of that, there was no room ready for us. We sat in the lobby for 30 minutes waiting for a room to clean, which resulted in being late for a family member's funeral service. Upon making the reservation, we were informed that the pool was closed indefinitely, so we did not pack any swimwear. We were then told that the pool was indeed open. This was nice, but very inconvenient to have to buy swimwear for the entire family, since the room was too small for all of us to comfortably relax in. we had three rooms reserved for multiple nights . Saturday January 17 my wife was in her room and alot of noise up stairs . We called front desk and Bianca said quiet time was 10 pm so at 10 still noisy . i called and she said she would go up and check at 11 still going on and my wife calls and she tells my wife that i had already called twice. Finally after 11 they stopped and then around 4 am it started again. So much for the phrase I stayed in a holiday inn express . The rooms were all clean and nice .

Check-in was friendly & speedy. The room was dated. The bathtub was rusty. The tile was cracked. The adjoining doors wouldn't open from the other room. The card keys wouldn't work the next day. The front desk acted like we bothered them. But they had someone working on he card readers that most likely reset the readers. It seems the front desk should have known. We saw others having problems. The positives are that the water pressure was great. And they are remodeling. The breakfast was awesome. They have a nice variety and better quality than a lot of other hotels. Even the coffee machine ground the beans for each cup. The breakfast staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was key for the stay here as we are visiting family and the area doesn't offer much. The staff are very friendly and the cleanliness is pretty good. However there are some definite concerns with the building and health and safety of guests in relation to it. Our room has visible black mold and a leak coming from the above unit that is clearly old as they have painted over it, however the mold is present and it's literally dripping wet.
