Holiday Inn Express & Suites Chicago - Algonquin, an IHG Hotel

Location works well for us when we go back home to Algonquin to visit my oldest son. So many places to eat and shop in the area. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We got a welcome bag as members of IHG and the tolietries they have on hand if you forget something are quite nice and not offered by most hotels anymore. The pool was incredibly clean and warm. I think they said its heated to 88. We are not a fan of Holiday Inn Express breakfasts. It always looks good but my kids would much prefer a wafflemaker as the "cool" pancake machine doesn't make good pancakes. Cinnamon rolls smell great but I'm not a fan. With that said, it's always stocked and hot. Can't go wrong with breakfast potatoes, occasionaly bacon and yogurt lol.

Was at the hotel and several hockey teams staying at same time. Quiet hours were not enforced. Called desk to ask about loud kids running up and down the halls till at least midnight. Upon check out there was a charge for food from the mini store they have in the lobby (which we did not make). Manager on duty Aaron was very dismissive and punted responsibility for several days until charges posted to the credit card. |Very negative experience and will not be coming back to this location in the future.

Positive: Responsive, helpful staff Negative: Soap accumulation at the bottom of tub caused by soft water and misdirected soap dispensers. Dispensers need to be changed. In the meantime, tubs need to be thoroughly wiped clean with each turnover, as soap accumulation is a slip and fall hazard.

The main reason we chose this hotel was so our kids could enjoy the pool, but unfortunately the pool was extremely cold. My daughter refused to get in, and even I was unable to stay in the water due to how cold it was. This was very disappointing since swimming was the primary purpose of our stay. Additionally, we were charged $6 for a single bottle of water when it was billed to the room, which felt excessive. Upon checking into our room, the bathroom also appeared not to have been properly cleaned, as there was still water left on the sink countertops. Overall, this experience did not meet our expectations, and we are very disappointed with our stay.

To anyone traveling to Algonquin, Illinois—this hotel is unfortunately one of the very few options in the area, but my experience was far from great. Let’s start with the staff: not all, but some were less than presentable. A few were kind and professional, and I won’t take that away from them—but consistency was lacking. Housekeeping was a hit-or-miss situation at best. The policy clearly states they do not clean rooms daily, but they will make the bed and provide fresh towels. In practice, the bed was poorly made, towels were inconsistent, and in my case the bathmat was taken but never replaced. One morning at 5:00 AM, I had to call the front desk because I had neither towels nor a floor mat. The shower was also dangerously slippery worth noting for safety. The so-called “fitness cen
