Historic Rush Creek Campground (Zion's Camp Expedition Historic Site)

Zion's Camp came to this site, which was the farm where Sidney Gilbert, early L.D.S. owner of the Lord's Storehouse in Independence Missouri came to after they were forced out of Jackson County in November 1833. I am a descendant of James Rollins, Sidney's nephew who lived with them during this whole time. The Walkers who now own this land and live in the big white house are LDS, have made this area available for people to see it, after buying the property in around 2015. This is the main place where cholera broke out and 14 members of Zion's camp died. Tragically Sydney Gilbert also died along with Jesse Smith and I believe a young girl who was living with the Gilberts. From historical accounts is believed that they were mostly buried here in unmarked graves. Bones have been found of

Even though you can only see the from the road, it's still special to be in the spot where members sacrificed their lives.
