Handshake Motel

We had a reservation in Paradise. They had cancelled us! We've been staying there for 60 years. It was a panic during the Crisp Point Lighthouse 150 year celebration. Roni, at Handshake Motel was great about getting us in a cabin. My sister Kim and I hung out over in her quilting, batik, tie dye, curio artist den(?) and had a lot of fun just learning about her beautiful crafts. They really aren't 'crafty' at all. Her works are original and uniquely 1 of a kind. I hope she has more there this year. We didn't know it then, but that was our Mom's last trip to the U.P. with us. She crossed over the next month. GPS Warning: For some reason Google Maps wanted us to take the snowmobile trails in back behind the property. This is not necessary as the motel is right on the highway. We stayed in Cabin 5 which had a kitchen/living area, two bedrooms, one bathroom Thumbs up: price, location, no size restriction for our dog (Great Dane), friendly owners, ROKU TV in living area, WIFI (though signal could be spotty), king size bed in master bedroom The shower was very small but had a removable shower head so it worked out. We thought there was A/C but it never turned on. We didn't really need it, it just got a little toasty while we were cooking. No hair dryer, but Roni let me borrow hers!

Comfortable and clean, owners go above and beyond to make sure you have a great stay. Great location for base camp when exploring the Eastern upper peninsula, centered between the Soo locks, pictured rocks, whitefish point , tahquemenon falls, Mackinaw island, St. Ignace, Garland zoo, Oswald's bear ranch, seney national wildlife refuge, mystery spot, and many others... Only minutes from downtown hulbert where the deer out number the people on the streets most of the time, and only a few more miles down the road is the access to the toonerville trolley trip to the back side of the tahquemenon falls. Came up to do some ATV Ridding. The trail access is directly across the street. Great rooms and the bar downtown has great food. Will defiantly be back.

It was clean, the owners were super nice, and the cabins were cozy! and I would go back again.
