Haig Point Lighthouse

Went in on Sunday morning with my daughter and son-in - law and grandson. We took a walk through the grape vines into the back garden. We were so amazed with all the Spanish moss and the tall tree’s. Along the way there was an observation for the bald eagles nest. Then we made are way inside as they had just opened we looked around the museum learned some interesting facts of Dufuskie Island. Before we left I asked about history of the light house? Here came this lady who knew exactly what asking and told us about the amazing story of the 2 point light system and it made complete sense. She was a wonder and amazing person we were glad we stopped in! We will be calling for the stainless steel tumbler “where Dufuskie am I” what a cute tumbler. As an enthusiastic lighthouse aficionado and a lover of all things coastal, the Haig Point Lighthouse on Daufuskie Island beckoned me like a siren call, promising views that could potentially cure my urban woes. Southern Living Magazine painted this beacon of light as a pinnacle of Southern charm and a must-visit destination on the East Coast. With dreams of salty air and scenic vistas, I packed my bags (and my hopes) and set forth on what I believed to be a quaint adventure. Upon arrival, it became abundantly clear that my trusty gas golf cart and I were not part of the elite club that could gain access to this illustrious lighthouse. The Haig Point experience was quite lovely! The Lighthouse was a special treat even in the unusually cold weather we had during our visit. The views of Calibogue Sound and the gorgeous houses surrounding the property were "to die for." The staff on-site were extremely helpful, from the ferry service to the Strachan Mansion to the valet and golf personnel! Our only difficulty was eating facilities. We inquired about dinner on a Sunday night and only 1 restaurant was open on the entire island and thank goodness we got there before they closed. The next morning, we were told that breakfast was available at the golf course grill, but when we arrived, we were told by the spartan staff that everything is closed on Mondays. We ended up going to the General Store at the Mansion and buying eggs

I have been to Hilton head countless times over the years and finally ferried over to the smaller island for a race, and what an experience! Such an incredible hidden gem! I plan on coming back again this year just to spend some more time, without running the entire time.

The lighthouse is not open to the public although it is on both maps we got. We were disappointed
