Grosse Ile Pilot House

Stayed at the Pilot House on Grosse Ile and had a pleasant experience. Yes, the accommodations are a bit dated, but everything was clean, comfortable, and well-kept, which made for an easy and relaxing stay. The location is fantastic — quiet, safe, and just a short drive to Trenton, which made visiting family incredibly convenient. It’s a great home base if you want to enjoy the charm of Grosse Ile while still being close to Downriver restaurants, shops, and activities. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the overall atmosphere has that classic, old-school Michigan feel. A solid choice if you’re visiting the area and want a clean, convenient place to stay. I’d definitely return.

Great location at the south end of the island at the airport. Jim was very accommodating and truly made us feel welcomed at a sad time for our family. The room for the 3 of us was cozy and quiet, and left little to be desired. We will certainly return.

We stayed one night at the pilot house and loved it! The rooms are a bit dated but big, comfortable and clean. Jim was a great host and easy to communicate with. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Excellent place to stay. Jim Cortis was very accommodating and easy to deal with. Funny as well. Will be going back. Also, they got walleye fishing charters if you desire to drift fish on the Detroit River! Excellent!

After coming back to Grosse Ile for the first time since we moved away in 2013 , I was overwhelmed by the friendliness and hospitality provided to me by Mr Cortis and his staff!! Jim, made me feel like he was my neighbor, rather than my host! We had some laughs, and the stories he told of growing up on the Island were not only captivating, but entertaining !! If you are visiting the Detroit area make this place a must stop on your itinerary. The room rates are very affordable too.
