Customer Reviews
We had a wonderful stay at a cozy cabin on Great Pond. Evenings were cool and perfect for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows by the campfire. We enjoyed watching a chipmunk scurry around and listening to the variety of birds. The lake itself was absolutely beautiful, peaceful, relaxing, and the perfect backdrop for a getaway.
Nice, military recreation center. Quiet lake and campground. Canoe and kayak rentals with life jackets. Good sized bass and pickeral. Cabins are good. Trails are fun. Bring your own food and drinks. Nearest Walmart is over thirty minutes away.
I gave myself the night to cool down. From the sheer frustration and crazy day. If you’re in the thick of it. This is not the place for you. Come back when things are mellow and relaxed. There’s no cell service and when you have a lot going on , funeral planning, random car trouble . This isn’t good. Mwr can have you pay for nights you don’t use. I experienced that for the first time here. So if you start having car trouble on a Saturday. And don’t want to break down on a Sunday. So you leave before check in on Saturday. They can charge you. It’s their decision. So if they don’t like you. They will charge you. I don’t recommend this place. Some people here are very hard. You know those people who will speak kindly while being rude . And then talk bad about people the moment they leave…
Great Pond can be a lovely place to stay for past and present United States military members. There are three main cabins, a few yurts, and designated spaces for RVs. The cabins come with appliances as well as a fire pit. Most beds there are pleasant, and the blankets are warm. The buildings are more than thirty years old, so certain areas are more worn than others. The shower makes you claustrophobic, and bathroom is sideways..? The environment is calming and peaceful. The various wildlife leaves much to discover, such as eagles, fuzzy caterpillars, monochromic woodpeckers, and maybe even a moose. The earthy fungus grows between the rocks while streams run on the sides. There are no ticks, but there's still mosquitos. There are plenty of activities for everyone. The rec center offers a
Great mwr rental! The only thing that could make it better would be wifi since the feel is spotty in winter and non existent in summer. One other issue in winter is no available laundry faculty. The coin operated machines are in the bathhouse for the campground which is closed during winter. Made a bit of a challenge for a family of 5. Loved the cabins. Staff a friendly and helpful. Louise in the main lodge did crafts with the kids and was very patient and helpful!
