Fenstad's Resort

We've been coming here off and on for 35 years, in the last dozen years in both July and September. Fabulous setting. Rustic housekeeping cabins are clean and comfortable, all with lake views. If you have to have a pool, wifi, tv...look elsewhere. We wouldn't go anywhere else. Owners are shy, not surly. Great location for exploring the north woods since it's midway between Duluth and Canadian border.

I stayed there twice, once in autumn, the other in winter, many years ago. LOVED the cabins. Simple and clean. Real fireplace was awesome. Cross country ski trails outside of our door. Fishing from rocks steps from our cabin. Friendly managers. Will check it out again this year and hope it still has the same charm.

The resort is wonderful. A variety of cabins located along the shores of Lake Superior. Our cabin was right on the rock beach and along side a small creek that joined with the lake right in front of cabin. The view was amazing. We saw loons and seagulls daily right in front of the cabin. Ships were visible in the distance. The cabin was clean and had all of the comforts of home. Towels and bedding are provided, but you do need to bring your own toiletries. Charcoal grill is provided, but bring your own charcoal. Firewood is available to purchase for a fire on the beach. There were families, couples and groups of people in the other cabins, but the resort is very quiet. There are bridges and trails that can be hiked around the resort. The office is only open 1 to 2 hours per day

This was the first time I stayed at Fenstad's Resort. I was looking on the internet for a place on the shores of Lake Superior with a beach, not rock cliffs. Lo and behold I found it! Still a little apprehensive about renting a cabin sight unseen, I was pleasantly surprised how remote and peaceful it was. The cabin was beautiful and so was our view! I already have booked another visit for next year. The resort is centrally located to everything on the north shore. Couldn't have asked for a better stay! I was up every morning at the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise, and I wasn't disappointed. If you are looking for rustic, no tv, peace and quiet, Fenstad's is the place to be!

My family and i have been coming to fenstads almost every summer I've been alive. I grew up here. I love everything about this place. It's right in the lake and you can go hiking on the trails to pick raspberries or hiking up the river to find pools of waters to swim in. My sister and I always had fun catching minnows and tadpoles in the shallow ponds. You can climb the cliffs that overlook lake superior during the day and have peaceful bonfires at night looking up at the beautiful stars. My cousin had a boat so we could go fishing and after we would watch my uncle fillet the fish and feed the rest to the seagulls. If you're looking for a beautiful relaxing stay in nature .. fenstads is your place !
