Elkader Jailhouse Inn

This Jailhouse is in a great location and has plenty of space for families. It's a unique stay for sure. It's definitely more of an Air BnB than a traditional "Inn," but it's nice nonetheless. I was the only one staying at the Inn the night of my trip so I had the house to myself which was definitely unexpected! Pros: - The fact that you can rent out the whole house is great. It would be great for a family trip. - The bed was comfortable and sheets were soft. - The kitchen is super nice and there were coffee pods available for use. - The bathrooms came stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There were plenty of towels to use. - Changing the temperature of the house was easy to do. - Instructions for cleaning up before leaving are clear and easy to follow. - The location is righ

This was a great location for 5 couples looking for a retreat. Everyone had their own bedroom (only one bedroom didn't have a queen). The kitchen, dining room and bar area were wonderful places to hang out together. My only regret is not taking the time to luxuriate in one of the fancy bathtubs.

My family had the luck of having this gem all to ourselves. We needed three rooms: my husband, son, and I shared the attic (my son slept on a mattress on the floor - plenty of room), my brother, sister-in-law and two children had a two bedroom suite, and my parents had a room of their own. We were served breakfast every morning at the time of our request in the old jail. Julie was a wonderful hostess and cook. ||||The jail has a fun history, and Julie has fixed it up to feel cozy. She has even fixed up a cell to look as it might when it were a jail. We loved our room in the attic with a giant bathroom with shower and enormous tub! The b & b is set on top of a hill over-looking town. The area is just beautiful and the town is quaint. ||||The only reason I did not give this place

My daughter and I did like the jailhouse setting. However, your policy says pets are welcome with consideration of other "inmates". In our stay, there were a total of 3 dogs during the 24th-25th. Two were kept in the kitchen and counter surfed. Barking and more barking. We couldn't enjoy the kitchen area at all. The other dog was kept in the room across from our room on second floor. Kept in there all day and night...barking constantly. Needless to say this wasn't pleasant, relaxing at all. This caused my daughter to leave Saturday night so she'd be able to get rest. I left before 8am on Sunday. With these dogs, other guests were not considered at all. I would have stayed somewhere else if I had know there'd be 3 dogs staying in the house at same time as our stay. My review will warn

The Emma Bear suite worked well for my husband's work trip so he and his employee could have their own rooms. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Would stay here again.
