Simply beautiful. Nestled in the valley of two mountains, the sites on the right have the Elk Fork River running by them. Each first-come, first-served site has a fire pit with a grill, a picnic table, and a food storage box. There are pit toilets, but no water or dump station available. This is a hard-sided-only campground due to heavy bear activity in the area. Many camping sites list this as a free campground; however, there is a self-pay dropbox at the front. The cost is $15 per day or $7.50 per day with an interagency access pass. Stays are limited to 16 nights, and the first night the site must be occupied. Most of the activity we witnessed was people coming to hike and take horses and dogs on the trails.
This is a clean, well maintained site. Plenty of bathrooms and sites. We definitely recommend staying here whether you're headed into Yellowstone or to Buffalo Bill Park and even Cody. It is about 20 miles from Yellowstone's East Entrance. The campground Host was very friendly and helpful. Welcoming us in, giving us ideas and tips for wildlife and possible dangers with Bear. We didn’t see any in the campground. Good sized sites. West side sites border a Creek and the East side sites have lots of shade. The sites are good for tents, RVs and trailers. Some of the sites could accommodate 30' + trailer or RV in a pinch. All sites have Bear boxes and the campground is regularly checked by rangers. Be sure to appropriately use the Bear boxes ... Watched Rangers deal with a site who didn'
This is a hidden, small little gem just 20 miles outside the east gate (Cody) of Yellowstone. We got lucky and they had a spot open, backed up against a creek with plenty of space between sites. The Park Host was a great help also, welcoming us in, giving us ideas and tips for wildlife and possible dangers with Bear. We didn’t see any. This is a clean, well maintained site. Plenty of bathrooms and wonderful camp sites. I highly recommend staying here and adventuring both inside Yellowstone, but out to Buffalo Bill Park and Cody.
This is a great campground. Richard the campground host was fantastic. The cleanest vault toilets I’ve used. There’s also a trail that was great for mountain biking it was an out and back, great views and I saw a Grizzly bear by the river during my ride.
We had a Buffalo come and hang with us while there. Beautiful place with lots of short hikes within walking distance
