I travel often between California and Henderson Nevada. I don’t care for the hustle and bustle of big hotels. Came across El Rey in March of 2025. And have been staying here once to twice a week since. Searchlight has a population of approximately 400 residents with its main attraction being Cottonwood Cove. El Rey Motel was built late 40’s early 50’s was once a casino and brothel ( interesting) yes she’s an old brick building with her short shower heads pink and blue tiles in the bathroom. However the windows, window coverings, and floors have been updated. There is a microwave and mini fridge in each room. El Rey isn’t fancy by any means but it’s safe with HOT WATER, clean sheets and quiet. There’s truck and trailer parking near Dennys. Alisha the manager who is extremely nice, an
Gave it a 4 because of the price and Clean, friendly, AC works, very reasonable, old. We were on a motorcycle trip, tired, and hot we needed a place to stay. This is just what we needed a clean reasonable place to stay. The older lady who seemed to run the place was very helpful and friendly. No refrig but there was ice. I didn't watch TV but my buddy in the next room did use wifi. There is not much in Searchlight so we were glad to find this one. A McDonalds and gas station were close by. There was a fishing tournament starting the next day at Lake Mojave so good we checked in a little early. The rooms were quiet.
Last minute trip for a overnight getaway we stayed here on 3/6/19. Lady was really nice and while this motel is older than most it is also a historic landmark! I slept like a baby and so did my kid's as it was very quiet! Clean and comfortable even has a small fridge and microwave! Not a 5 star hotel but definitely a 5 star rating from me.
$44 for a room on a weekend and everything is old, somewhat dirty, and run down. Posted signs saying not to adjust the ac or it will freeze up for three hours, but the room was cold. BUT, the beds were clean and we slept fine and the manager is a nice lady. The other guest seemed to enjoy talking and saying hi and you can walk to either of two small casinos and places to eat. We actually enjoyed staying there regardless and I would stay there again.||There is an awesome tree covered city park (ask for directions) that the dogs liked.|| I recommend Terrible's Roadside Casino. Full menu, not expensive, good food.
Searchlight is a great place from which to explore the Mojave Preserve, even though a half hour drive away from some of the trails and a longer drive to the visitor center. It is a big preserve. This motel is inexpensive and quite comfortable. Room we stayed in had a nice little refrigerator with a real separate freezer compartment. Good for freezing water in plastic containers or gel packs for the picnic cooler. Bed was comfortable. Only minus was a note on the air conditioner advising not to change the temperature settings. WiFi was weak in our room, but we didn't come here in order to be glued to a screen. |There is a restaurant casino next door that was pretty good. Unfortunately the restaurant part closes at 9 pm on weeknights. Maybe later on weekends.
