Douglas Lodge Fourplex

Really nice rooms. Better than expected. Small beds but the rooms are pretty large. The screened in porches are excellent. The cabins came with firewood already available. The fireplace was great as well. Would stay again and recommend to others

The old lodge is historic and interesting to see. It is in a scenic location above the shore of Lake Itasca. However, we had some aggravating issues with our stay there. Some of these have been addressed by other reviewers. |1. When we got to the lodge, there was no staff there. Apparently there never is. We had to backtrack 2 1/2 miles to the campground office to get our room key.|2. When we got back to the lodge, the room key did not work. They had given us the wrong key. They did send someone out fairly soon to let us in the room, then he had to go back and get the correct key for us.|3. We were planning to eat at the lodge, but we learned that the restaurant is only open Thursday to Sunday. So we had to drive several miles to find food.|4. We had hoped to take a boat tour of the lake,

Don't stay here!!! Please learn from our mistake. This was the most horrifying experience I've ever had and my kids had to go through it too. ||||Don't get me wrong, this place is cute and eclectic but I will never stay here again nor in any of the cabins they offer. My husband and I tucked our two kids into bed age 1 and 4 and then went to bed ourselves. At around 2:00am in the morning I felt something touch my arm. I thought it was my daughter getting up to go to the bathroom, but here it was a BAT on the side of my bed. I saw it fly into the bathroom. Screaming at my husband informing him there was a bat. I was in a mad dash to get the kids to safety, but it actually came flying back at me and touched my arm again. I was able to get the kids in the hallway but then my husband came out a

We have been coming to Itasca for about 25 years. Typically stay in cabins. This year we had a legitimate concern about a cabin and our inquiries fell on flat ears. We never even got a call back that we were promised. We were not looking for nor asked for any compensation - we were only trying to explain what happened so the next patrons would not have to suffer what we went through. Apparently no one cares enough to even call us back about it. So we are moving to another lake resort for next year. I don't need to be treated like that, especially after all these years.

The lodge restaurant is only open Thursday- Sunday and never for breakfast. Other days you have travel about 5 miles or more to find one. No lodge employees around anytime it seems. I guided boat tour of the lake is no longer offered which is also disappointing.
