Been going here since my children were small and now they are adults and have children of their own. Not much has changed except for the new restroom/shower facilities. Never had any problems with anyone while camping. You use to be able to just show up and find a campsite, now need reservations (good thing) showed up once and campground was full and we drove 4 hours to get there. Found a hotel and came back next morning and found a spot. Now I make reservations and guaranteed a spot when I show up. Lots of hiking and wildlife to see. Several new outhouses also a some group campsites for larger family's. Photos are from seven trips and the elk were a first time in all the years I've been. I've heard them calling in the campground and don't be surprised to see any of the animals in the camp
Excellent campground with excellent amenities and hosts. Clean, private, and hot showers on demand as well as clean and well-maintained bathrooms. You will see elk, deer, bison, turkey, squirrel, and all manner of fauna up close. Hiking nearby is accessible and fun. Camp shop sells wood and ice (cash only honor system) and you have Lawton within 20 minutes of camp with a Target for any last minute needs. Cache can provide simple convenience store stuff as well. Campsites are spacious and have lots of trees around them. There are established fire rings and charcoal grills as well as concrete picnic tables. There are also primitive bathrooms in the area if you are closer to those than the real bathrooms. Lots of dumpsters available too. It's a great campground.
Beautiful place to visit. Great camping spots. The water hydrants werent the easiest to get to so bring a long hose to fill up your tanks. We saw lots of wildlife near the campgrounds and lots of great views. Will be back!
This is a hidden gem in Oklahoma! Not only can you see bison on the side of the road but there is a heard of Elk as well as longhorn cattle that may or may not stroll through the camp site! Hiking and trails were well maintained and fun to go on! The holy city was a neat experience as well! The view from the top of MT. Scott was worth the trip by itself! While in the wildlife refuge their is a feeling of seclusion being surrounded by rocky mountain out cropping feels good in oklahoma! Fishing was good bass and catfish for us! The campsite was clean and very strict about rules! No vehicles off the pavement at all times! Cell phone service was not available so plan accordingly; we are Verizon. 30 and 50 Amp are available throughout the electric section by the water! Wildlife was everywhere
This place is amazing! It’s perfectly dark at night, plenty of shade in the day time and the facilities are by far the cleanest I have EVER used at a campground! There are wild animals that will visit so keep your food away and scorpions at night but I mean, we are in their home. No lake water access other than the bridge I have in the pictures but there is plenty of other places around the refuge for that. Please stay here! It is totally worth it!
