This is one "must do" destination, especially if you are a fisherman, to fish the Big Hole River that runs by Wisdom and Wise River, Montana. What an idyllic place. Here time runs still on crisp clear mornings, with a breeze blowing down river, through the warming day of ranchers putting up hay in big round bales or by "beaver slide" and hay stacks. The Big Hole Rivers runs through it, calling to all. Dickie Bridge Campground is located conveniently partway along the highway west of Wise River. There are 8 or so designated campsites, situated right at the Dickie Bridge. Lots of trees shade the sites and create a haven of color, shade and protection from the wind. Here anglers and raft/ kayaks can put in to float downriver. A sizable parking lot affords good parking for vehicles
This is a primitive campground with one toilet facility and no potable water supply. It is immediately adjacent to the Big Hole river. Noise from the highway is infrequent but there. The tables are large and sturdy, there is a fire ring at every site. We were the only ones there. The sites are fairly close together. At the height of the season it might seem a little crowded and the toilet might get busy.
Bring your bug dope! This is probably the worst year for biting bugs I've ever seen. (2021) Beautiful place though!
The place was awesome with the exception of a disrespectful camper that was mad we parked where he usually parks every year. But other than that, it was perfection!
Small no fee BLM campground on the Big Hole River. I planned on a 5 night stay, stayed for 3 nights. The good: The 8 or so sites are fairly well kept as far as weed eating and cleanliness, the several different species of birds are a true joy to see & hear throughout the day, the location is a plus being right on the river & close to Wise River,MT. The bad: The firerings & tables are outdated, a couple of the parking spots are very unlevel, no speed limit signs in the campground or the adjacent road(Bryant Creek Road) which means if there's a slight breeze blowing towards the campground & a lot of traffic you're gonna be dusted out(especially on a weekend), no quiet rule like a Forest Service campground so we got to listen to noisy generators at all hours of the night. Worst of all is the
