Loved our stay at Davis Mountain. Full-hookup site (site 006) Nice hiking. Great views. Evening ranger program was great. Cute town. Great view for our Starlink (we work remote) Had fun at the McDonald Observatory Star Party. The goat head burrs are terrible!
The staff here are phenomenal. Extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I have yet to run into a single one not smiling. The park is nice for being in the high desert lots of mature trees giving some shade. There is a nice, air conditioned Interpretive Center with birdfeeders and lots of great birds visible. Birders seem to love it and I enjoyed learning from them! Mixed review on the sites. The first one i went to had the picnic table on the wrong side so if I hadn't had an extension cord I would have had to have my door on the opposite side to plug in. Phone service is non-existent but they have wifi near the showers and at the interpretive center (not throughout the park) . Restrooms are very clean and air conditioned. Wind can be fierce. Watch out for the javalinas that r
This place is truly special. The park itself is so naturally beautiful with its surrounding mountains and Skyline Drive. Then you add features like Indian Lodge, the Interpretive Center, bird blinds, hiking trails, CCC structures and excellent ranger programs (don't miss a chance to spend time with Ranger Charlie!!). Then there's the cool western vibe of the town of Ft. Davis and its historic fort. Also a great springboard to explore Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute, Alpine, Marfa, Balmorhea, and McDonald Observatory.
Spent only one night there but we were pleased with the State Park. We had site 60 with electricity and water (no sewer but there was a dump site nearby) and site was okay (with some mud) and levelled. But site was quite far from showers and the shower block had only one men and one women shower/toilet... so a bit challenging and involved some wait. Hopefully the campground was not too crowded. Rangers and staff were quite nice and gave a lot of goodies to our kids after they had completed their junior ranger book. The interpretation centre was interesting. Did not take the skyline road to the top; was not sure it was okay with our motorhome as it looks narrow. Rangers mentioned sharp turns, so did not take any chances. There is a nice trail (1.6 miles) going to the top. Our biggest dece
Excellent hiking trails and amazing views. The mountains are so beautiful whichever way looking at them. I particularly enjoyed the trails hiking up and down the mountains as amazing views await at each turn and ascend. The CCC constructions are everywhere and they are beautifully done. Unfortunately the lodge is closed for repair… which is a nice lodging option in Davis Mountains. Happy travels
