Cruces Caboose Bed & Breakfast

This is a great B&B very close to the Katy Trail. 2 old cabooses w all the amenities, except any service from Verizon. Very cold A/C unit and a fully functioning kitchenette. All the beds are singles, but they're longer than a standard twin bed. The bathroom is like those in RVs w the stool in the shower. Imo better than a hotel at the same price if you're looking for a memorable experience! Picnic tables outside the caboose and a pond loaded w stunted crappie. I was told you may catch a bass or catfish... maybe. It's hidden away, but a worthwhile gem. $100/night.

My four female friends and I were on our way to start bicycling the Katy Trail and reserved the two cabooses for our first night in the area. I was very happy with the rustic accommodations in the authentic cabooses. My friends are a used to a place with more amenities, but I enjoyed the place just as it was.||The host was friendly and thoughtful. He built a campfire for us in the woodsy yard overlooking a pretty pond. He stayed to chat for a while, but then left us to ourselves. ||The cabooses were cozy, but had everything one might need....but in a small area. My bed / cot was quite comfortable, but my friend said hers was not. ||Of necessity, the shower occupies the same space as the toilet...like in a Pullman car, or RV. Six of us stayed here while bicycling the KATY Trail. The real cabooses are great: we had both. The showers work well and everything was very clean. We enjoyed meeting Damon, the owner, who met us and let us in. As we were without a car, so had asked Damon ahead to buy is extra groceries for dinner and extra eggs, etc. for breakfast. I emailed him a simple grocery list ahead. Very nice of him to do this for us! We just paid him the extra when we arrived. ( Continental breakfast is included.) We really enjoyed the fire pit and cooking outside on the grill. It is a very peaceful setting on a back country road about a mile and a half from the KATY Trail. We really enjoyed staying there!

Had an excellent time. Damon was super friendly, and had bonfires lit for us in the evening and morning. This is such a fun destination if you're looking for something different. He can sleep up to 6 per car, and has 2 cars. If you're looking for super fancy, this isn't for you. If you're looking for an out of the box vacation in a beautiful setting... this is it. We're bringing back the whole family soon!

This is a fun stay to relax if you're an adult, or for kids to play if you have them. We chose to relax. The caboose could be compared to an overnight stay in a trailer, with the added bonus of being able to say you've slept in a caboose. Everything is comfortable but not fancy, with many original details left in place. The owner set up a fire for us upon our arrival with lots of additional wood available, and we enjoyed his company later in the evening. The cabooses overlook a woodsy spring-fed pond, and there are plenty of chairs and a hammock to enjoy the view. You could also sit on a bench and look across the road if you prefer a rural view with cows.
