Coyote Campground, Kisatchie National Forest

Primitive campground, only a pit toilet available, no water. Wonderful scenery. A hotspot during deer season.

Great! Primitive campground. Not too crowded, even Friday after Thanksgiving (even during hunting season). Camps where I could see the overlook at sunset & sunrise. Fairly quiet, except for for RV with a generator. Rangers were very friendly and helpful.

Sufficiently close to the Alexandria superchargers for overnight climate control in a Tesla Model S charged above 35kWh. Nearby trails require additional driving. Electric outlets, potable water and flush toilets unavailable. Eco friendly, arthropod-proof, composting toilets available, albeit odorous. Fireflies in elaborate courtship displays after sunset. Area shared with ATV campers.

Pulled in after 10pm, very quiet and peaceful place to camp/ car camp

Free primitive camping spots in a hilly national forest. Vault bathrooms with toilet paper stocked when we visited. No water, no electric, and no trashcans. Some of the spots have a cleared flat area for fires. Lots of poison ivy just past the camping spots! Be very careful not to walk out too far or in the dark if not wearing long socks, closed toe shoes, and pants. Surprisingly few bugs in April. We only saw one other group staying who managed to fit their small camper in their spot. Otherwise pretty quiet night. Many bird calls in early morning to wake up to.
