Stayed here overnight in October 2025 to get closer to DC on my C&O bike ride. Not sure what I was expecting but I may have been better off getting a room in Brunswick. The house was dark even with the sun still up as the outside wooden shutters were closed, and inside curtains were drawn. A strong odor of mold is present. If you are seeking a historical experience it does provide that, but if you need a night of sleep maybe look elsewhere. Being alone added to the spooky feeling. I will say the house held some warmth within it even though it was 40 degrees outside during the night, and I did wake up with only 50 or so miles to Georgetown.

A beautiful and remote getaway. It's quite rustic, no running water, and a Porta potty, but what a great experience that cannot be matched elsewhere. We learned about the fierce competition between the up and coming railroad and the canal transportation, and even now the trains roar past this little gem of a house. It was raining so we didn't try out the fire pit but definitely usable with lots of firewood available. I had the best night of sleep, and it was very calming to the nerves to be in such a rich forest area. I highly recommend this experience for all who are interested in local history.

Everything was great except the port-o-john which hadn't been serviced recently. The Lockhouse itself was wonderful. Perfect for our youth group outing. Fire pit and firewood ready to go. Plenty of space to stretch out and meet, take naps, eat, play games, read a book, etc. Our third time staying at a Lockhouse. Always a wonderful experience!

Two floors inside. Lockhouse has mail for splitting, saw, shovel, and basic campfire tools and skewers. Recently added outdoor furniture to the picnic area and fire ring. Basement can lock and u lock, good for storing bicycles for overnights. Porta-potty outside.

This is a fairly well preserved Lock, with adjacent stone house. There is no parking near this location; the closest car park is approx 800-m away on the flat, crushed gravel wide C&O towpath. There is a port-a-loo located on site, as well as two information placards.
