Stayed two nights in late July. Rate was $45/night. We were told they have weekly, monthly, other long-term rates. The pleasant city park is centrally located, with restaurants, groceries, other businesses in walking distance. The park's RV section has been expanded to 14 sites. It was a great base for our touring of the region, and a small but full featured town.
Seems a little overpriced at $50 for first night and then $35 for each successive night for what you get. But it’s nice. Just seems overpriced. You check in at the police dept so you drive there first. Lot was large and easy to get into. It’s in the Fort Kent municipal office building. Then you get a key that unlocks the power and water boxes. You return the key when you leave. Sites are gravel and level which is great. Pretty close together. Get water and electric and sewer. It is nice to be able to walk the town. I stayed here for the fishing derby weekend. The towns atmosphere is wonderful! Old fashioned normal American small town, with people proud of their town. 1200 people show up for the Boy Scouts chicken bbq. And hundreds enter the fishing derby. Lots to see, for a small town. Se
Eight or so flat and quiet spots in town at the town park. The park also includes a huge picnic shelter, boat ramps, soccer fields and a walking trail. The sites are all open backing up to narrow woods that back up to the Fish River. Good solar charging exposure/no privacy. Sign-in and sign-out at the police station which is in walking distance, but most will want to drive the roughly 1 mile each way distance. Fort Kent is a nice place to visit. I think if I were to paddle the Allagash again I would add a day and take out here.
We stayed at the campground for a week. This was one of the better campgrounds that I have stayed at. It was located near hiking trails and the river. We could walk right out our camper and walk down to the river. Fort Kent is located right on the Canadian Boarder. The Verizon service was excellent. The campground had full hookups. Cost was $20 a night. To check in you can go straight to the campground and pick out a spot. I would recommend the last spot. After this you have to go to the police station to check in. just go to the back of the building and check in with the dispatcher. They will provide you with the key to unlock the utilities. One other fun fact, Fort Kent is located on the US 1, the first mile marker. The end is located in Key West.
Very nice level campground right on the St John River. Water, sewer, fire ring, picnic table and elec at each site. Long walk to the end of park to restrooms. We were told they were available, but were locked during our stay. Because of that, we think 35 a night was a bit to much. 7/8/2020
