Choctaw Lake is a beautiful place with a 3 mile walking path allaround the lake. I love going there with my doggies. I have only used it during day time, but the camping areas seem great and well maintained! Highly recommend visiting this park nestled in the Tombigbee forest. It's about 30 min drive from Starkville heading towards Sturgis and the you take the US 12 from Ackerman.
10 minutes from a town that shuts down after 8pm. If you like quiet camping, campfires, fishing, walking, swimming, and relaxing, then this place is for you. Just drive thru the gates and pick your campsite, then drive back to the gates and pay the honor box the camp fee. Each campsite is about 60 yards from the next campsite over with more than plenty of shade, water and electric hookups. First thing you'll want to do is meet the campground host, they are wonderful country folks and really make sure that you have everything you need to enjoy yourself. If you need to know where the big fish are along the banks, you are sure to find out if you ask. Not too far from the Natchez Trace. A great campground to stay at if you're traveling down the Trace and need an overnight stay! Great trails for walking or hiking! Beautiful lake for fishing! Campsites have 30/50 amp electric service and water and there's a dump station at the entrance/exit of the park.
Very peaceful. Good roads going in. We took the bike out on a little day trip. Very clean and well kept. The west side of the lake (from hwy 15 side) is paved. All other entry points are gravel.
Great place to camp or just get away for the day and very affordable! Bathrooms and showers around the lake, multiple walking trails and pet friendly! I love it every time I go and it’s really clean!
