These photos were taken in the summer. There's a hiking trail that leads down to the lake and up the mountain. The views are beautiful, and the trail is shaded. The campground didn't seem too crowded when I visited. Dogs must be on a leash, or there's a $70 fine. Watch out for bikers when walking down to the bridge. The bike trail is hectic in the summer.
Hands down one of the most beautiful campsites I've ever stayed at. Plenty of wildlife to share your visit with and GORGEOUS views of Lake Chatcolet. Pet-friendly as well!
Well maintained with flushing toilets. Spots are private with bushes surrounding most sites but sites are pretty close so hopefully you get good neighbors. There are water spigots to use and a decently steep trail down to the water. There’s only one decent beach area that’s pretty small unless you don’t mind scaling the rocks to the water. The day use area is a short drive away. Nice fire pits. Dog friendly just have to stay on leashes.
Lots of open camp sites when we drove in Friday. We think it’s because the marina is being remodeled. We did not have reservations and figured we swing by just to see if they had openings. Camp host and park rangers both greeted us to make sure we were situated. We didn’t bring cash but were allowed to pay at the visitor center in the morning. Each site has a fire pit and the camp host has firewood for purchase. Very good location if you’re riding the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes.
They have made major improvements from the last time I visited. The sites finally have leveled tent pads! The sites are so more on the rustic side, not fully leveled, and the general mood is quiet and reserved. If you're looking to socialize or bring kids, I wouldn't recommend this end of heyburn. Hawleys Landing would be a great alternative for families. They even have these awesome little backpack rentals that include binoculars for kids and parents with booklets for bird watching, wildlife track prints, and tree types. If you want to have a nice, quiet weekend away from the hubub, in a relativity private site, Chatcolet is for you.
