Chafin Lodge, Rhododendron Restaurant & Conference Center

I'm only talking about the restaurant inside. We had a group of 16 people. Nothing about our meal at all went well. It was horrible. Unfortunately we have no where else to eat locally so we are forced to dine here. Training in the kitchen is recommended as well as the hostess staff. I'm trying to be as polite as possible.

Drove from Richlands Virginia to the Breaks Interstate Park just to have lunch at the Rhododendron Restaurant. The view is breathtaking. The atmosphere is warm. The staff was great. We had a Ruben and a Philly Steak sandwich. Both were delicious and to be honest it’s one of the best cheese steak sandwich I’ve had in a while. But I also loved the homemade vegetable beef soup which was great. The server was very nice and the food was delivered fast. As far as prices I eat all over and their prices are no higher or lower than anywhere else. They also offer a salad bar. And the dinner menu is also different. This was well worth the trip and I totally enjoyed the experience. I have to add we visited the gift shop and the variety of items to buy is plentiful and of the highest quality. We bought

I've attempted to eat here twice. First time they said they were closed because another party was having an event or something. Today they informed us that we could only order buffet (it looked horrible). Maybe put a disclaimer clearly on the site that it's buffet only before someone takes a 3 hour round trip. Pathetic.

Delicious food and very kind and polite waiters!

Food is very good, and fairly priced. view is top notch, and all employees are very nice. Hours and days open are a bit of a pain, so just check all that in advance. If you are staying in any on site lodging, plan on eating here a lot (there's literally nothing else). Nearest food option is in Haysi, and that's a Subway in a gas station. Plan your trip accordingly and you'll have a great time. I've been coming to the Breaks for over 40 years and I love it here.
