Cave-In-Rock State Park Cabins

The cabins show some wear, but were very clean and well supplied with towels. Be aware that the kitchens have microwave, coffee maker, mini-fridge, and mugs but no plates or utensils. The views of the Ohio River are amazing--we enjoyed so much watching the barges passing by and a cruise ship. We even saw a bald eagle soaring above our patio. We enjoyed both Cave-in-Rock and a hiking trail on site, and also Garden of the Gods and Rim Rock trails in Shawnee National Forest. The area is very isolated; other than the restaurant associated with the cabins the nearest restaurant was nearly half an hour away and to have any choice it was 45 minutes drive to Harrisburg.

The cabins are clean and roomy in early 1970’s decor. The internet was broken throughout our stay. Cellphone strength was one bar. The windowshade had several broken slats drooping vertically down from one side. The kitchenette includes a microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker without dishes or utensils. The view from the balcony is a lovely vista of the Ohio River. The lodge serves a nice variety of good food at fair prices with attentive service.

First time, small hike to geological cave that is easy although there are stairs. Terrain is combination cement, dirt mixed with rock. |Educational and not near big city. Ferry at Cave in Rock (town) that takes you from Illinois across Ohio River to Kentucky. Great place for photos.

Loved taking the ferry across the river to get to it. Only stayed one week. But very calm blissfully. Very relaxing. Restaurant had many options to choose from. Staff was absolutely professional. With lovely locals to talk to. Wish I would havexwent to the cave!!

Great cabins! Restaurant with great food is right across parking lot. Cabin balcony overlooks Ohio river, over to Kentucky. Watched barges go back/ forth. Very peaceful! So much better staying there than any hotel! Highly recommend
