Cassandra Railroad Overlook Motel

This is a privately owned, non-chain motel that is located in one of the best railfanning locations in Pennsylvania. It is far less expensive, about half the price of other rail-oriented lodging in the horseshoe curve/Altoona area. The motel is quite close to the Cassandra Overlook, a small park with a bridge spanning the tracks that is open to pedestrian traffic, but closed to vehicle traffic. If you're looking for mints on your pillow, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a motel room that's cheap and close to all the popular places to watch trains on the mountain crossing of the railroad, this is a great place. The biggest downside is that the cleaning lady is habitually lax, so it could be cleaner.

Inexpensive. Very small town. Owner is friendly. Microwave. Hot water. Television. AC. Nice overall. Mainly a railfan motel but all are welcome.

Came here for the all nighter and this may start to take over my usual Altoona visits XD Just make sure you call ahead as rooms are great but limited in numbers but that's probably the case with most motels anyway.

The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the staff was great and the train action at the bridge was awesome, I can’t wait to go down there again, would highly recommend this hotel if u luv to watch trains and need a place to stay for awhile u won’t be disappointed!

It's a spectacular view of the trains
