Caribou Gem Motel

Our group had such a great time at this motel! The place was clean, beds were comfortable, check in/out was very easy. The only thing we had a problem with was sound, the walls to the outside were very thin and we heard everything that anyone outside had to say. Also, the train tracks right across the street were extremely active, including through the night. But overall lovely! I would stay here again!

The owner of this motel is honestly the worst person I’ve ever had to deal with. We needed an emergency place to stay after our original plan fell through. There is no service desk at this motel so the receptionist told us the door would remain unlocked (sketchy) with the keys on the table. We showed up to a dirty, musty smelling room. The door wouldn’t lock period and was extremely hard to shut. The towels in the bathroom smelled awful like they sat in a washer for days. Under the beds looked like they had never been moved nor touched with a broom or mop. All of our socks were destroyed from walking on the dirty floors. Me and my family stayed in this hotel as it was the only one with vacancy for our day trip. We were quoted $95 a night for a room. When we returned home the next day and there was a $350 charge on my account. I contacted the receptionist who was very nice and helpful and she advised her manager told her the room had a broken and damaged television. We did not touch the television. We got to the hotel at 10 pm and went to sleep. Woke up at 9 am and left to lava hot springs. They are now not returning or answering my calls, when I was told a manager would be contacting me. I’ve had to dispute the charges with my bank. The tv in question is $40.

Trains blares a horn 500 feet from the hotel. Clean upgraded kitchenette but lacking in chairs or nightstands. No place to set a suitcase or a toothbrush.

We adore this location! It’s secluded and away from the bustle of Lava Hot Springs. A must for a family on introverts that need to recharge. It is also our favorite for price!! I hope this business stays fairly priced. We love watching the trains and walking the small town. The number we call to check in has always been courteous and answered questions, and we have had a lot. It has been remodeled since the last time we were there. I love how it has a full size kitchen. It’s nice to actually have a real freezer. Recently our car battery died while in the parking lot. The crew that was putting on a new roof got our car up and running, rather than having us wait who knows how long for AAA. Small towns are the best.
