Calais Motor Inn

After driving all day we realized the selection was very limited on places to stay. Outdoor appliance was not the greatest but we wanted to give it a try. Walking in the front door there was a smell of dirty maple syrup. The staff at the front counter was rough around the edges but sort of kind. The room was nasty on all levels. The ceiling tiles were either stained or broken. Looks like they could fall out at anytime. The bathroom was old and run down. The sink leaked all night with an annoying drip. The beds were old and hard, pillows were also old and flat. There was nothing we could do for a good night sleep at this point. Beautiful spotlessly clean motel. Our room was spotless. Water was hot and shower had great pressure. No issues in our room everything was in great condition and perfect working condition. Breakfast was awesome. We will definitely be back.

I stayed the night there in November 2025. I got up the following morning to sheer ice on the front cement steps leaving the motel . I fell hard and hit my left side and elbow. A week later I am still bruised and sore. The front desk lady never asked if I was ok. Never apologized. Nothing. When my husband told her I fell her response was “I will get to it in a minute I am just opening up” I am fortunate I didn’t hit my head. It was so icey I could not get back up and had to slide down onto the parking lot on my butt. An apology or at least an “ are you ok?” Would have been appreciated. What terrible service.

My father and I stopped here for a night and sadly one of the beds had what looked to be a bodily fluid stain. For the price of the room a washed stain would be somewhat acceptable I guess... But, the sheets/stain had not been washed as they lined up perfectly with each other. At the very least the sheets should be washed between guests. Also, there's no staff beyond 9pm so we couldn't even get new sheets to change ourselves. Everything else was pretty gross, dated, dirty, smelly. We brought this to the front desks attention and no compensation or apology was given.

After driving 8 hours from Connecticut on our way to Nova Scotia, we had one choice and that was Calais Motor Inn. There’s no elevator so we just brought in our pajamas and toiletries. We had the suite which was fair, TV had no internet but we were tired so it wasn’t a big deal, suite had limited lighting, the bed was comfortable, the restaurant food and atmosphere was good.
