Burt R Shurly Camp

great camp i went there as a child 7 years ago my siblings have attend now 10/10 recommend.

I went to this camp when I was 10 years old, for Captain of the Safety Patrol training. I was okay but the mix of kids was weird, the age group was from 10 to 14, which is a huge difference. I did learn that I could compete with teenagers in anything and everything. It was my only camp experience and I often think about it. Come to think of it I never received my certificate for my training. It was a great experience but the one shower and bathroom for the entire camp was interesting to say the least. I think that more kids from cities need to experience something other than the city for the summer to know that there is something else out there.

I went to Camp Burt Shurly with my younger siblings and it was amazing. I was only able to participate for one year as I turned 12 the following year but I will sing its praises. Counselors were great with the children and were more like big brothers and sisters. I’m happy to see the camp thriving on.

Hi my name is Breanna i attended this camp in 2016 i believe. I was sent here from Henderson elementary i was nine years old . Day 1 : we get to the church that the bus is picking us up from , We wait and we finally get there . it’s 3 buses one for our things and 2 for us . there are about 60 kids 30 boys 30 girls on each bus we drive for about an hour and a half maybe 2 . We arrive at the camp and we are told to turn all of our electronics in . In the rain we hand all of our stuff in as they throw our bags off the busses ONTO the WET GROUND! We get settled into our cabins a couple of minutes later and the counselors come and meet us and give us a little tour . I was the waterfront director there 1973 and 1974 (I think) I loved the experience, the friends I made and being with campers experiencing lakes and woods for the first time. "Where does the water go at night?" "Where do the fish sleep?" The waterfront was the most popular place at camp. I loved the experience!!! Thank you!!!
