Blue Lakes Campground

This campground is perfect if you really need to charge your off grid solar set up, or if you’re a big astronomy buff who needs an unobstructed view of the sky. The trees are all gone, so the sun is brutal. I stayed for one night, that was plenty. The hike to Bear Lake was nice, but there was still a lot of deadfall on the trail. The road up to the campground wasn’t bad if I went slow. The hairpin turns had a lot more potholes and washboard, but were doable.

We loved Blue Lake and the Bear Lake Campground looked great too. Don't let the older photos fool you...there aren't many trees left in either Campground. The latest blow down damage and cleanup took most of them. Hopefully improved the view. The mountains were gorgeous.

Fantastic remote campground. Just 2 1/2 hours from Colorado Springs, but far far away from city life. High altitude (over 10,000 ft). We stayed at site #8 which backed up the the creek and trails going to Blue Lake and on to Bear Lake. We were tent camping, though others had RVs. The road up to the campground is gravel and washboard in spots, but easily navigated in our mini van. The site was gorgeous, with wildlife sightings, very friendly chipmunks and blue jays and camp robbers that came right up to the picnic table to say hello. The site was super clean and spacious. We had tons of privacy. The creek was wonderful to listen to, watch the waterfalls and follow the many winding trails. We went in late September, and the nights were quite chilly. But we loved every moment.

Beautiful country side, just the scenic drive is beautiful and breath taking. I will be coming back soon, the campgrounds are well kept bathrooms are cleaned daily as I presumed because it was always clean.

We had such a nice time at the Blue Lake/Bear Lake campgrounds in the San Isabel National Forest above La Veta & Cuchara!! Scott and Lori were incredibly nice and accommodating campground hosts. It was quiet & peaceful, and we had amazing campground neighbors. 5 ⭐️ for both the area and Scott & Lori!
