My stay was in later February and much of the campground was closed down. There's a nice shower facility, but it's up the hill from the campsites that were open. I drove back to the shower after finding my site. Eh... Just meant I had to shower before setting up. The water was hot and except for leaves on the floor the shower room was otherwise clean and in surprisingly good repair. There was a nice conventional flush toilet near my campsite. The pads are level enough for me, but I sleep in the back of my truck and I'm not too picky. Of the 6 sites I tried, only two of the 110 receptacles could be used. The others seemed to be blocked and unusable. Overall the facility was clean, quiet, and in good condition. Only one other camper here as far as I can tell. I expect it's busy in the summer
First time visiting and would definitely like to go back. Would love to visit in the summer, but I bet it would be to packed for my liking. The entire campsite was freshly paved which was nice for parking. The sites are kinda backwards though, with the firepits and tables on the driverside when backed in.
We went here in Dec 2024 during the off season but the hot showers building still worked. And it was very clean. We checked out the spring it was a beautiful blue. For camping loop 1 was closed only loop 2 w power and loop 3 primitive. For the hole park being so beautiful I think the campground could use a little love.
The area is beautiful (it’s the Ozarks, so of course). The campground was ok. Our site 209 had electric but when I tested it it was showing ungrounded so I didn’t use it so we managed without the power. (We were only there one night.) The showers were hot but not very clean (ie, used bandaids, small pieces of trash even a pair of panties in one shower!) and not conveniently located. The shower building was mid way between the camp loops and the dump station. Our site was big enough for our 24 ft trailer and tow vehicle but many of the sites were smaller so if you have a big RV make sure you check the site sizes. Our site did have nice shade trees. And definitely go up to see the spring head. It was amazing.
The good; Big Spring is beautiful, lots of deer and wood chucks, access to the river (though it is right through a campsite), pretty peaceful most nights. The bad; showers were pretty far from camp and most didn't have hot water or working lights, only reservable, so we couldn't just get one more night even though we wanted to and no water at the site only one rickety leaking faucet near the bath house that is hard to access from the street to fill your camper (stop at the dump site to get water before coming). The ugly; never saw the camp hosts do anything, trash all around camp, no soap in the woman's bathroom, one night people were loud past quiet time and no one told them to stop. Basically the hosts are just getting a free spot to stay, which is annoying.
