As an older couple from the East on a road trip through western Wyoming, we enjoyed three nights at the Big Bear, at a very reasonable price. I endorse the previous very favorable reviews. Although the old A/C - which we ran only briefly - is indeed noisy, our unit was in a row of duplexes, with windows we could open on three sides for ventilation, quite effectively. As I say, the price of our stay was very reasonable. We enjoyed a carriage-ride on the last night of the carriage-ride season for Moose and Flint, the amiable and patient draft horses. For dinner, I can recommend the Irma, Buffalo Bill's hotel. We ducked in just to view its famous cherrywood bar and ended up staying for the buffet, which was excellent. Someone in the place knows how to cook. The buffet was a little pricey for
The staff is very nice here. A few of the outlets were not working, but they were able to fix a breaker, so we didn't need to change rooms. The dryer stopped working with wet clothes in it. We had to use a 24hr laundromat. The rooms are small with an odd layout which makes them feel smaller. Part of the issue is that there is a microwave right up on the sink since there was no where else to put it. It was supposed to be a king sized bed, but it's actually two smaller beds pushed together that slide around quite easily. We enjoyed the outdoor seating outside of the room, especially during extended stays.
The staff was super kind, the rooms cute, the location great and the prices fair and reasonable for clean lodging. Accessibility for parking is good for those with mobility issues, however the tub was super slippery. I brought my own shower chair so I managed okay. My friend decided not to shower because of her risk of falling and previous falls. The area to potty dogs was close but we packed out our dog poop since we didn't see garbages nearby...maybe some could be added right by that back potty area. The free wagon rides looked fun tho we didn't try to go on them, would have needed some special accommodations to get into the wagons and were gone at YNP anyway. Thanks for the stay, overall very nice!!!
When traveling, we expect a clean room, decent bed…and extras are not necessary. This reminded me of travel in the 50s and 60s either parking right outside the room. The staff recommended a place across the street for breakfast, which was great. Most important, the location was perfect, as we could walk to Old Trail Town and the Cody Cattle Company dinner and show in under 5 min. It was on the side of town closer to the road to Yellowstone. If you are comfortable with simplicity, then you will like sitting outside in the nice wooden seats to enjoy the early mornings and evenings.
Positive: This hotel is so kid friendly! They even do horse and carriage rides at night for everyone for FREE! Everything about this hotel was great. Negative: No coffee maker in the room. But that’s all.
