Best Western Plus Sparta Trail Lodge

We have stayed at this hotel several times over the years and have always enjoyed it, which makes this most recent stay last week especially disappointing. Unfortunately, there was an odor throughout the building that smelled like a sewer or water issue. We experienced a similar smell during a stay in October 2025 and even had to switch rooms at that time. We were told then it was related to cleaning the kitchen and that our room was located above it. This time, however, our room was on the ground level at the opposite end of the building, and the odor was still noticeable. We were also disappointed that the pool area was closed due to pipes bursting during cold weather in January. Our stay at the Best Western in Sparta was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. We encountered multiple serious issues that management showed no concern for, and the manager, Linda, was completely unwilling to help resolve anything. First, the room was filthy and poorly maintained. The headboard had chunks of foam missing, and the flakes from it were all over our sheets. The chair cushions looked like a dog had chewed them and were just covered to hide the damage. The microwave didn’t even have the correct glass plate, so it didn’t work properly at all. For a hotel carrying the Best Western name, the condition of this room was completely unacceptable. The pool area was even worse. Nice clean 2 bed room, perfect for 3 adults. Fridge, microwave, nice TV with cable, dresser with 4 big drawers would be great for a longer than one night stay. MANY outlets and charging ports. Lovely indoor pool, with handicapped lift. Kids pool worth slide, and nice hot tub for the adults. Guest laundry facilities. Vending in lobby. ||Large, clean, comfortable, well-maintained breakfast area. Buffet has juice, coffee, large and mini waffles, sausage, eggs, tater tots, oatmeal (instant, make your own), yogurt, canister, bagels, mini muffins, cold cereal, bananas, apples, oranges. ||If it weren't Christmas, I'd like to stay longer!

Booked a stay while my son was doing National Guard drill in town. Room was very nice. A little dated and could use a better cleaning as far as dust and such. Breakfast was good. When my son returned from drill Saturday, his CO sent a form for tax exemption due to his military visit. The hotel refused it though he had a copy of his orders in his phone. They claimed I booked thru a travel agent...WHICH I DID NOT....I booked directly thru Best Western website stating military discount. They were for sure willing to argue with me how I booked the room even though I had the confirmation info screen shot in my phone showing the BW website. I was never allowed to show them that. We don't really lean on using my son's military status for discounts. He appreciates the discount but its not a make o

Positive: It seemed pretty quiet, the vast tv channel selction was a plus. Very good breakfast! Negative: The pool was down and we did not know this, they said they called but didn't have correct number? The heater/air conditioner unit was not working correctly, the filter was filthy. The toilet was loose from the wall a bit (we did notify staff)
