Baymont by Wyndham Sarasota

This hotel is rough. We paid roughly 150 per night but in my opinion it should be about 20 a night. We had to swap rooms twice because the first one had throw up on the bed skirt, spikes coming through the ripped up carpet and dirty towels still in the bathroom. Our second room smelled like cigarettes smoke (even though it was a smoke free room) and the shower didn’t have hot water. The front desk lady tried to be helpful but this place seems like more of a homeless shelter. If you’re looking for a decent hotel don’t let the pictures fool you.

This review is in praise of the staff. Lamar was exceptional in wanting to help us in a difficult situation with a declined credit card. He probably spent 10 minutes trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat but it was not possible. All the while he was so helpful and personable! We were so impressed that my friend returned the next day when her card was straightened out and spent a few nights. Although the motel itself needs upkeep, it is a big loss that it is closing soon. There are so few affordable motels in Sarasota, especially close to the hospital. Staff member Bitsy was also terrific. The Baymont was fortunate to employ them both!

Room was not clean and the bathroom was infested with roaches. Location was perfect for the Sarasota Art Museum event we attended. And there were plenty of places to eat and visit nearby. Check-in had some drama but the clerk was overall nice. I will not be returning here.

Positive: Breakfast was okay not good okay. Negative: Do not stay here! Disgusting, old, smelly. My room carpet had a hole dug into it with the nails sticking out. The tub didn't drain i had to shower in a puddle. The lounge chair had stains and was filthy. I stayed in room 207 $---nt. I'm so mad ?

Room was "cleaned" but not very well. I've been in other old hotels and can tell the difference. Dark spots on the bathroom floor and the carpet smelled. There was a weird damp and funky smell in the room that made me allergic. I had to go out most of the time to feel better. AC was too loud. TV was from last century I think. Breakfast very poor for this price. Their cranberry juice had started to oxidize and turn into vinegar. For $170 a night this was just not okay. Staff was nice.
