AuSable River Camping - Site 001D (Alcona Pond)

Great spot for camping on the AuSable. About a quarter mile down a two track drive, about the same from the F4001 bridge / launch/get out point, via the river. It has a fire ring, a picnic table and a trail that fallows the river off it (that some bad campers didn't bury their poo). Open view for stargazing, sunny with some shade. Dog friendly! You can see the bridge from the site and hear road noise. There are steps down to the groomed riverbank. It is possible to get in and out of the river from there, rocky bottom off the bank. Not too deep it gets somewhere around 4ft. - 5ft. deep about 20ft out.

Medium size lot, mostly dirt, sun and shade, opening for viewing stars, path down to river about 25 feet (not too steep)nice wood fence with small trail for exploring, trees available for setting up hammock, drive from AuSable Road to site was very unlevel with exposed rocks that scraped heat shield of mini van driving in and out. No cell service with Verizon Wireless, short drive to Alcona Canoeing to get 4G phone access.

Great site. Secluded. Long driveway to camp. Site is located near the federal bridge so expect some traffic there. River was refreshing & pathway to the river was decent.

One of my favorite spots to camp on the ausable. Close to the boat ramp, glennie, and showers at the ausable river canoe.

Nice little spot not great for a camper but 002 is perfect for a couple campers
